The Short Bio
Kay Bennson is from Northwestern Connecticut where she lives with her husband and son. She doesn't remember a time where she wasn't writing stories (in fact, some of her best ideas were forged in high school classes and at part time jobs). When she isn't writing, she enjoys video games, Irish dance, gymnastics, and fanfiction.
The Long Bio
My name is Kay Bennson and I am an author. I have been waiting nearly my whole life to say that, and I suppose to write a bio explaining who I am. I probably could have settled for the one that you can read on the back of my book, but I love telling people more about myself. I hope you might discover something about me that you didn't expect or perhaps something we both have in common.
I grew up in Torrington, Connecticut. When most people who are not from the Nutmeg State think of Connecticut, they think Greenwich and assume I was rich or they think Bridgeport and they cringe. Torrington (at least at the time) was a happy medium of the two. My younger brother and I used to "play pretend" most of our days. Sometimes we were Jedis, other days we were part of a wolf pack, and we really liked to pretend we were camping. No seriously, ask my aunt, every time she babysat us we pretended to go camping. I don't remember the exact moment that I started writing stories, but I know I was young and in Elementary school. Whenever we'd have a writing prompt I'd write a short story instead of just answering the question. I also remember carrying a wire bound memo pad around and writing little things about dogs and ghosts. I used to tell myself stories to help me fall asleep and my father would knock on my door and ask who I was talking to. Writing became an important part of my life. It was something I did every spare moment that I had. I wrote during all my classes. I wrote at my movie theater job. It was relaxing and since there were so many stories that were vying for space in my head it was nice to get some on paper to make room for new ones. Some of them were God awful, but there are a few that I would like to revisit someday. Fast forward to the present day, where I'm still writing every free moment I have and I cannot picture doing anything else. I'd like to be one of those authors that gets up every day and does nothing but create new worlds and people from the comfort of their home, but until then, I teach Kindergarten. I'm also married to the man of my dreams and we had our first child, a son, in September 2019. I was a competitive Irish dancer currently on a break, but am always looking forward to trying new things. Enshrine, Limited Truth, and Shrewdest Faction were my stepping stones. I'm excited for the future! |
